Notes: Crabill 1953 - Bulletin of the Brooklyn entomological Society 48(4): 88: "I am relatively certain that Verhoeff's Californiphilus, described from California, is actually referable to Chamberlin's Gosiphilus." Californiphilus was also listed as potential synonym of Gosiphilus by Crabill 1959 - Entomological News 70: 155. The synonymy, however, was not formalized. Matters deserve further scrutiny, because Gosiphilus Chamberlin, 1912 is currently regarded as a junior synonym of Chomatobius Hu8mbert & Saussure, 1870. Synonymy of Californiphilus under Chomatobius would cause secondary honynymy of the species known as Californiphilus mexicanus (Attems, 1947) with Chomatobius mexicanus (Saussure, 1858).
